Because they are outside the park boundary, it’s possible to visit the lakes without park ticket for a pleasant escape from the carnival-ride atmosphere of Chitwan’s other activities. Beeshazar and associated lakes is designated as wetlands of internationally importance ( Ramsar Site) in 2003, because of possession of its outstanding global biodiversity values. The lakes is at the center of Barandabhar Corridor Forest, which is the most important natural corridor that links Siwalik Hills of the park to Mahabharat Range which extends up to Annapurna Range in the north and Valmikinagar Wildlife Sanctuary to the south in India. The lakes are home to an incredible array of birds, a sizable population of crocodiles and the occasional wandering Rhino and Royal Bengal Tiger. The best way to go is by jeep and bicycle with expert nature guide. A round-trip excursion to the lakes can be done comfortably in half a day.
